China's robot market is huge, and the "four major families" are accelerating their domestic layout
Time:2025-02-06

With the rise of labor costs, China's demographic dividend gradually disappears, and the "machine replacement" of manufacturing industry gradually becomes the mainstream. China will form a huge industrial robot market. Faced with the vast blue ocean in China, the four major global robotics giants - KUKA, Fanuc, Yaskawa, and ABB - have taken action to accelerate their deep layout in the Chinese market.

With the gradual disappearance of the demographic dividend, China has become the world's largest industrial robot market. According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, by 2020,

China will have formed a relatively complete industrial robot industry system, with a high-end market share of over 45%. At present, the use of industrial robots in China is mainly concentrated in the

automotive industry, electronic and electrical industry, arc welding robots, spot welding robots, and handling robots, which are widely used in production.

Since 2016, replacing humans with machines has become an urgent need for enterprise development. In addition, as the price of industrial robots continues to decrease, the effect of replacing humans

with machines is very obvious. The enormous potential of China's industrial robot market has attracted high attention from the global "four major families" of robots, KUKA, Fanuc, Yaskawa, and ABB,

and several companies have accelerated their layout in the Chinese market.

On April 24th, Yaskawa Electric and Changying Precision officially signed a contract to establish a joint venture company, Guangdong Tianji Robot Co., Ltd., in Songshan Lake, Dongguan. As one of the

four globally recognized robotics companies, Yaskawa Electric and Changying Precision will fully leverage their advantages in technology, market, and other fields to develop cutting-edge

next-generation small six axis industrial robots and enhance the quality and core technology of China's domestic robotics products.

After the establishment of the joint venture, Tianji Robotics plans to produce 500 small six axis robots in 2017, 2000 in 2018, and achieve an annual output of 10000 by 2021.

As one of the four major robot brand enterprises in the world, Yaskawa has mastered core robot technologies such as servo motors and motion control systems, and its bloodline is very pure. Yaskawa

obots have always been in a global position in terms of cost-effectiveness. From Yaskawa's perspective, choosing Changying Precision as a partner for the development of small six axis robots places

greater emphasis on Changying Precision's accumulation in the 3C industry and the huge market it can tap into.

After the establishment of the joint venture between Yaskawa and Changying Precision, Tianji Robotics plans to produce 500 small six axis robots in 2017, 2000 in 2018, and achieve an annual

output of 10000 by 2021.

According to Japanese media reports, ABB, one of the top four industrial robots in the world and a Swiss company, will open a large-scale sales and service base called the "Application Center" in

Chongqing, an inland region of China, within 2017. In inland China, investment opportunities to promote economic development are increasing, and ABB hopes to seize the demand for automation.

Currently, ABB is preparing to open an application center. It is expected that the area of the center will reach several thousand square meters, and the investment amount has not been announced.

The center will actually be equipped with industrial robots, sales personnel, and technical support engineers.

ABB has the same base in Qingdao and Zhuhai along the coast of China. The application center in Zhuhai plans to relocate and expand its scale within 2017. Li Gang, the head of ABB's robotics

business in China, said that having three bases in China is not enough. In the future, it is necessary to establish centers in northern and other regions.

And there is also Fanuc, one of the "Four Great Families", who values Chongqing. It is reported that Fanuc had already started building a technology center in Chongqing, China as early as 2016.

Fanuc Executive Officer Shanzhi Inaba stated at the time that Fanuc is hoping to utilize the Chongqing Technology Center to cultivate talents such as robot engineers or system engineers, and

contribute to the development of Chongqing.

We are preparing to cooperate with automobile factories in Chongqing to promote intelligent application and bring cutting-edge robot technology to Chongqing, "said Shanzhi Daoye. In recent

years, progress has been made in capital investment towards inland areas that are lagging behind in economic development compared to coastal regions. Fanuc is also discussing the establishment

of a technology center in Chongqing as a sales and service base in 2018.

Kuka, one of the "Four Great Families," already carries Chinese ancestry and was officially acquired by China's Midea Group this year, becoming an important part of Midea's industrial ecosystem.

Given Midea Group's vast market foundation, well-established sales channels, and strong consumer stickiness in China, KUKA is expected to become one of the "four major families" that has achieved

outstanding results in the Chinese robot market.

The high attention paid by the "four major families" of global robots to the Chinese market proves that the development of the Chinese robot market is far from coming, and the market potential is

still enormous. While strengthening cooperation with the "four major families", domestic robot companies should also focus on the future, start from quality, and create their own core competitiveness

in order to promote sustainable development of the enterprise, drive the intelligent transformation of the industry, and achieve China's creation.
